What Ding Wei means

Each year of the almanac is a pair: a heavenly stem over an earthly branch. Ding, the stem, is yin Fire, the flame of a lamp rather than the blaze of the sun. Wei, the branch, is the Goat, the Earth of late summer that still holds the warmth of the day. The almanac gives the pair the nayin of Heavenly River Water, the rain that answers a dry season.

Ding Wei last came round in 1967. For those born in the Fire Goat year that began in February 1967, 2027 closes the full cycle of sixty stems and branches, the return Chinese tradition marks as a life come full circle.

The year in the home

Nine Purple, the star of this era, holds the center of the chart in 2027. The tradition counts a year with its own era’s star at the heart of the home as a bright one, and asks for quiet in only four parts: the north, the west, the southwest and the northeast. The signs that meet the Tai Sui head-on are the Goat, the sign of the year, and the Ox, which stands opposite it. Some almanacs add the Dog and the Rat in a lighter degree. The tradition reads such a year as one to move through with care, not as a verdict.

Moving and building in 2027

The almanac does not mark a whole year as good or bad for moving; it marks days. Choose a good day in the month you plan to move, and move in on it. Lucky move-in dates sets them out month by month.
