Lucky colors for 2027: the year’s, and your own
No single color is lucky for everyone in 2027. The year is Ding Wei, Fire over Earth, and its own colors are the reds of Fire and the ochres of Earth. The colors that carry a person come from their own element, read from the day of birth, and differ from one person to the next.

The five elements and their colors
Every color the almanac speaks of belongs to one of the five elements, and the elements move in two cycles. In one, each feeds the next: Wood feeds Fire, Fire feeds Earth, Earth feeds Metal, Metal feeds Water, Water feeds Wood. In the other, each tempers another: Water tempers Fire, Fire tempers Metal, Metal tempers Wood, Wood tempers Earth, Earth tempers Water. A lucky color is never lucky by itself; it is lucky for someone, in a year, by where it sits in these two cycles.
| Element | Its colors | It feeds | It tempers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wood | greens, teal | Fire | Earth |
| Fire | reds, oranges, plums, warm pinks | Earth | Metal |
| Earth | yellows, ochres, sands, terracottas | Metal | Water |
| Metal | whites, grays, gold, silver | Water | Wood |
| Water | blacks, navy, deep blues | Wood | Fire |
The colors of Ding Wei
Ding is the Fire of a lamp, warm and steady rather than blazing, and Wei is the Earth of late summer. Their colors are the year’s own: candle reds, plum, the warm pinks of evening light, and the ochres, sands and terracottas of dry ground. To wear or set out these colors is to go with the year.
Your own colors come first
The almanac reads a person by the element of the day they were born, the day master, and weighs it against the rest of their birth date. Some people are carried by the colors that feed their element, others by the colors that temper it. Two people born in the same Goat year can need opposite colors, which is why no list by sign can take the place of your own reading.

Rooms keep their own rules whatever the year. A bedroom wants soft, light colors: the school reads bold red as too much fire for a room of rest, and all black as too much cold water. A bathroom wants light and warmth against its damp. Bedroom colors and the rest of the bedroom rules →
Questions people ask
There is no single one. The year’s own colors are the reds of Fire and the ochres of Earth; the colors that suit a person follow the element of their day of birth, which differs from one person to the next.
Its stem, Ding, belongs to Fire, whose color is red, which is why 2027 is called the Year of the Fire Goat. Its branch, Wei, belongs to Earth, and its nayin is Heavenly River Water.
The same as anyone’s: the colors that suit the element of the day of birth. The sign of the year does not choose them; the day does.
The almanac bars no color for everyone. What a person should go easy on are the colors of the element that works against their own, which the reading of a birth date names. At home, the bedroom rule holds every year: no bold red, no all-black room.
